Allergy Testing

The Importance of Allergy Testing

More than 50 million people in the United States have allergies, some of them suffering year-round and others experiencing symptoms only when seasonal pollens fill the air. Regardless of the frequency or severity, the first step in any effective allergy treatment plan is to see an allergist, someone who specializes in treating allergies and asthma, for testing and diagnosis.

Many people suffering from allergies never see an allergist for testing because of misconceptions about the procedure. But allergy tests, which have been greatly improved over the years, are now more convenient, accurate and relatively painless. Along with a patient's medical history, the results of allergy testing can confirm that symptoms are the result of allergies rather than some other cause and can identify the specific substances that trigger allergic reactions. An allergist can then determine the most appropriate and effective treatment.

At WellQuest, we believe that allergy testing and maintenance is an important part of a person’s over all health and that allergies shouldn't keep you from living the life to the fullest. That's why we offer allergy testing and intervention as a part of our integrative approach to health and wellness.

Allergen Specific Immunotherapy

WellQuest practices what's known as Allergen Specific Immunotherapy, which is the only strategy that treats the underlying cause of the allergic disorder, as opposed to suppressing the symptoms, resulting in an improved quality of life and a reduction in allergic and allergen related asthma. Immunotherapy reduces the need for medication, which alleviates additional stress on the liver.

Allergen Specific Immunotherapy (also termed hypo sensitization therapy, immunologic desensitization, hyposensibilization, or allergen-specific immunotherapy) is a form of immunotherapy for allergic disorders in which the patient is vaccinated with increasingly larger doses of an allergen (substances to which they are allergic) with the aim of inducing immunologic tolerance.

It is a highly cost-effective treatment strategy, which results in an improved quality of life and a reduction in allergen related asthma, as well as a reduction in days off school and work.

Immunization Frequency

Allergy shots are usually given periodically over three to five years or until the person’s own immune system has been strengthened to resist the allergens on its own.
